Trauma Informed Care Implementation Models, Assessment, and Practice

  • With more than 600,000 administrations worldwide, the UCLA PTSD Reaction Index is the gold standard in evidence-based assessment for childhood trauma exposure and post-traumatic stress reactions.

  • As the preferred training and consultation partner for Behavioral Health Innovations, The Hathaway Center for Excellence endeavors to assist agencies, providers, and school districts across the globe with their training needs on the use and scoring of the measure, as well as the integration of the assessment findings into clinical applications.

  • In partnership with the UCLA PTSD Reaction Index measures suite developers, The Hathaway Center for Excellence has launched a training series and other resources which serve as standardized and comprehensive aids to providers in ensuring that assessment findings are actionable.

Biography

Dr. Cameo Stanick is a licensed clinical psychologist and Vice President of Training at Sycamores. Dr. Stanick received her Ph.D. from the University of Tulsa, where she focused her research and clinical work on childhood trauma, including completing her predoctoral internship at the National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center at the Medical University of South Carolina. In 2016, Dr. Stanick joined Sycamores and she and her team are committed to advancing the field by providing training, consultation, and technical assistance for evidence-based assessment, practice, and implementation science in children’s mental health.

Biography

Dr. Nick Ryan graduated with his Master’s degree in Marital and Family Therapy with a specialization in Clinical Art Therapy from Loyola Marymount University and earned his doctorate from the Institute of Contemporary Psychoanalysis in 2012. He is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Board-Certified Art Therapist, and Certified Psychoanalyst. Currently, Dr. Ryan is Assistant Vice President of Training at Sycamores. He worked in residential care for 20 years serving in various roles and also has specialty training and experience working with children and adolescents and gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender individuals.

Biography

Gayle Wiler is the Assistant Vice President of Peer Support for Sycamores. She successfully completed the Peer Parent Specialist Certification from Georgia State Behavioral Health and the Los Angeles County Parent Partner Training Academy – Essential Skills Certification, and assisted with the development of PPTA-ES exam as a subject matter expert. Her history as a pioneer Family Partner, hired within the children’s mental health field 25 years ago, began after her son failed in multiple residential settings and transitioned home successfully with Wraparound services. This experience influenced her educational and professional pursuits in developing and implementing effective peer-delivered programs and services across the country, and advancing family-driven, youth-guided care in system transformation.

Rozlyn Kwong is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and is currently the Implementation Specialist at Sycamores. She obtained her Masters of Science degree in Counseling Psychology from Mount St. Mary’s University in Los Angeles. Rozlyn holds multiple certifications to provide treatment, supervision, and training across multiple Evidenced-Based Practices including Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Seeking Safety, Positive Parenting Program (Triple-P), Managing and Adapting Practices (MAP), and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) for Traumatized Children. She is also endorsed by the California Center for Infant-Family & Early Childhood Mental Health as an Infant-Family and Early Childhood Mental Health Specialist and a Reflective Practice Facilitator II. She is passionate in utilizing evidence-based and trauma-informed practices to support children and families in improving relational dynamics, to heal from trauma and relational losses, and to restore their potentials to be in meaningful relationships.

Biography

Eleanor Owen is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with extensive experience working with children and families. Eleanor received her Master’s in Social Work from San Diego University in 2012. She started with Sycamores in 2010, and has worked in several direct service positions and programs. Currently, she is the Implementation Support Practitioner. Eleanor holds certifications to provide treatment, supervision, and/or training in multiple Evidence-Based Practices including Managing and Adapting Practice and Interpersonal Psychotherapy.

Biography

Dr. Janine Quintero is a licensed clinical psychologist and the Vice President of Research and Continuous Improvement at Sycamores. Dr. Quintero received her BA in Psychology from UCLA and a doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Alliant International University. Dr. Quintero has over 15 years in working with a non-profit in evaluating the effectiveness of an array of mental health services as well as prevention/early intervention and residential programs. Dr. Quintero oversees the Research and Continuous Improvement department for Sycamores where the team is dedicated to working collaboratively with leadership to review organizational and clinical program effectiveness to target areas of improvement.

Abjot Kaur “Abby” is the Center for Excellence Coordinator for Sycamores. Abby received her Master’s in Public Health from West Coast University. Abby manages the agency’s external training program through community public relations, technology, and web administration, and facilitation of training provision. She also supports the management of the Institute’s Continued Education (CE) program.

Mental Health First Aid
Learning about mental health needs is necessary to support our workforce navigating these unprecedented times. Many struggle finding the balance of work and personal life given the nature of physical proximity, possible work space limitations, distractions, feeling more isolated or disconnected from friends, love ones, and co-workers, and limited access to many of the resources we relied on to let off steam and recharge ourselves. The health crisis of COVID-19 has greatly impacted the mental health of Americans. Mental health challenges – such as depression, anxiety, and substance use – are shockingly common in the United States. These challenges are also on the rise due to the impacts of the global pandemic. This training will certify participants to be prepared with knowledge and skills to help individuals who are developing mental health problems or experiencing a mental health crisis
Self-Care 101 while Working-From-Home
Since an unprecedented number of our workforce has been remotely working from home, the boundaries between work and home life have become more blurred than ever before. With the added pressures of keeping oneself and loved ones safe during a global pandemic, increased exposure to social injustices across systems, and managing schooling-from-home tasks for some employees, the need for self-care has become imperative to overall well-being. In a working-from home environment, it is easy for attention to be pulled into multiple directions and distractions are in abundance. Learning the building blocks and committing to intentional, routine self-care practice can be both a strategy for improving well-being as well as for improving work productivity and focus. When work has entered into our home life space we need to define the work space FROM the home space. In this training, the participant will learn how stress works on the brain, will learn self-regulation strategies, and how to create a self-care plan.
Building an Inclusive Team
With heightened consciousness of the social injustices in our world and positive effects from building an inclusive team, more company leaders are searching for and welcoming a diverse workforce. However, building an inclusive team is not simply checking a box. It takes commitment, humility, collaboration, and cultural intelligence. Even the most well-intentioned team must engage in self-analysis of bias into order to build cultural humility and embrace inclusivity as the way forward. This training will invite participants to examine the impact of implicit bias and learn the ingredients of building an inclusive team that has the potential to yield positive performance outcomes.
Dealing with Transition/Back to Work
As the COVID-19 infection and vaccination rates begin to improve, American industries are preparing for employees to return back to an – at least partially – office-based culture. Even if your organization’s plan is to adopt a hybrid model, much change has occurred in the past year and ‘going back to the office’ will take preparation and planning to ensure a smooth and sustainable transition. This training will challenge participants to consider what aspects of working in this past year they would like to retain and what they would like to let go, and how going ‘back’ to the office may be actually be better described as going ‘forward’ to a new workplace experience.
